pixelrave are big fan of Deaf Rave!We live surrounded by ableism and most of the time it is hard to us to understand that there are alternatives mostly because we never experienced those. Deaf Rave is a history of resilience, initiated by Troi “DJ Chinaman” Lee in UK that merged Drum&Bass with signing performances, and much more.

Troi “DJ Chinaman” Lee
Founder Troi "DJ Chinaman" Lee began with a vision to give Deaf, Hearing and Disabled Artists and performers a platform to display their love for music. Deaf Rave provides entertainment with music, sign song and visual performances to an all-inclusive audience, globally and across the UK. Our aim is to unite everyone through the love and passion for music. Promoting our unique Deaf/ Disabled identity and teaching everyone about Deaf Culture.

With one place in hubs you are only allowed to choose one character and login in from one device. Any uninvited guests/characters will be kicked out, to make sure we all enjoy best performance of our machines and servers.
For the best experience use only a PC/ Laptop, never a smartphone. Make sure you have good headphones or a good speaker(s) connected to your computer For the best experience we recommend to download and install the Chrome browser on your mac or PC. https://www.google.com/chrome/
In your computer, please close all unnecessary browser tabs, programs and anything else that can slow down performance of your computer.
Make sure your laptop is on power supply.
If you use a VR headset(e.g. HTC Vive or oter), make sure you have a WebVR compatible browser. Make sure your VR headset is properly updated. Test the Web VR in your browser at least one hour before the show starts. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/view-virtual-reality-firefox-webvr Quick way to join a room by standalone VR headset (e.g., Oculus Quest, Oculus Go, Samsung Gear) is by sharing the URL, which you then open in your headset’s browser. pixelrave loves parties, an act of resistance.
In Istanbul - mostly after 2014 - the LGBTQI+ communities are facing a tsunami of institutional and social discrimation, homosexuality is not illegal in Turkey, but homophobia is widespread and for many is not safe anymore to walk in the streets. Situation became even more difficult with lockdown and restriction imposed by Covid-19 sanitary emergency and the parties that where one of the very few opportunity to have in person meetings started to explore new forms of online-based solidarity. We met Queerwaves and Club CoWeed, two of the most active groups in Istanbul’s nights to learn how to rave together in the time of imposed social distancing, creating safe spaces even where LGBTQI+ communities are extremely endangered by violence and prosecutions.

Group was founded by Melis Nots, Salih Canova, Sema Semih and Şevval Kılıç in 2014. After coming together and becoming friends as activists who have diverse experiences in LGBTQI+ movement in Turkey more than 10 years, the team members joined forces to have fun together and take care of each other with events they organize for their community and transform open spaces with gender politics.

Since 2014, partying is a form of existence for the Queerwaves team, who have been involved in many events in Istanbul and organized unforgettable parties.

Bringing a queer touch to Istanbul's nightlife and electronic music scene, queerwaves organize parties with special concepts and always make anywhere as queer as it can be, their priority is to provide alternative entertainment and solidarity spaces for queer folks in İstanbul.

During 2020 and 2021 Queerwaves initiated a fundraising campaign to support queer nightlife workers in Istanbul. The initiative kicked in to help nightlife workers to face livelihood expenses, food and bills in a extremely difficult situation that did not receive any form of support from government and institutional channels.
pixelrave invite all of you to support this initiative, you can donate now.

Melis

After working many years at a lesbian club in Istanbul, Melis opened Şarlo with her partner in 2013 while having a desire of queer clubbing scene in the city. Not only the club left remarkable stories of wild parties and colorful memories to queer community, it also served as a sanctuary to LGBTI people during Gezi protests. After closing the club, Melis hasn’t stopped being a community builder, and has been organizing queer parties since 2014. While working at Charmenko (international booking agency for live music events) as a production manager she is also co-founder of Queerwaves collective in Istanbul which designed for queer community to come together and empower each other through music and dance.

On the occasion of the first pixelrave event worldwide live-streamed the 19th of December 2020 Club Coweed and Queerwaves joined forces to host a secret afterparty. Instanbul’s hottest dancefloor during pandemic times broke timezones and anywone lucky enough to get through the selection will never forget that sweaty night!

A massive thanks from pixelrave to Aria Na Selectra, Dj Florence, Özgür Kaktüs and Şevval Kılıç for building beat after beat such a unique safe zone.

ClubCoWeed offers you the chance to turn your living room, couch or bed into your favourite space for a while, through the parties that they organize on Zoom, the recently widely used video-conferencing app. In their events that take place on weekends, they aim to create a mutual experience with the participation of DJ's and performers from various locations, and the dances and "gullüm"* of the participants.

They aim a place where many LGBTQIA+ people can exist, socialize and dance and which becomes a working space for many queers.
*word in "lubunca" - Turkish queer language, meaning fun or jokes.

	𝘌𝘧𝘦𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘦
They are ideally and potentially distant from traditional production methods. They aim to go out of stereotypes, hierarchical discourse and styles through the collective production process. Gender and trauma are the focus of their collective work. 𝘌𝘧𝘦𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘦 is trying to carry out their experiments with horizontal organizing mechanism, as such, 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘈𝘭𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘤𝘭𝘪𝘱-𝘗𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘦𝘵-𝘓 series produced and the 𝘓𝘶𝘣𝘪𝘯𝘺𝘢 𝘋𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘮 documentary series, which is fed from the same problems, are continuing. pixelrave loves non-normative communities. The POP revolution is starting now, far from the conforming language defined by music industry and branding in the second half of the ´90s. POP is now everyone and everything, with the infinite freedom of defining themselves with unlimited language of the bodies.

They are a community of queer performance artists, performing in various venues in Istanbul nightlife. By organizing performance nights and taking the stage as performers in many venues in Istanbul, they were both taking part in the entertainment industry and doing activism… up until now.Ever since they started social distancing themselves because of the Covid-19 outbreak, they continue their broadcasts through their social media channels. By doing live broadcasts of their shows like “Dudakların Cengi” or “O Perf Türkiye” and starting their Youtube/Twitch channels, they seek new ways to connect with their community and audience, and try to keep the solidarity we need strong through establishing a connection that could lift our spirits.

pixelrave would like to invite you to read the following message and support with donations the Istanbulite Queer Performers Solidarity Fund.

“We’ve built ourselves an economy with the shows we’ve been organizing for more than 2 years and the tips we’ve collected, but it is collapsed now. We have friends among us that are still students, that lost their jobs, that continue their lives without getting support from their designated families and they have become less secure than ever, right from the first days of this shutdown. Many of us living without any social security, savings or a source of income are having difficulty meeting their basic needs, particularly health and housing. In this hard and uncertain times, we need an economic solidarity network more than ever. Therefore, we’ve created this solidarity fund that all of us can contribute to, so that we can support each other with feelings of trust and responsibility. If you want to support us, you can send your contribution, either for one time or regularly. Or, you can simply share this fund with your friends.”

	pixelrave loves revolutions!
we met two South American collectives that made weapons out of their bodies and parties. Guerrilla tactiques of squatting, informal organization and nightly life stealth actions. Their language, aesthetics, stories, everything in their artistic works is revolving around their communities, they are the rising majority that is knocking down bigotry establishments on the dancefloor.

House of Tupamaras is an interdisciplinary collective dedicated to the practice, circulation, and management of Ballroom and Voguing culture in Colombia. They create safe spaces for the free development of the body and gender. Taking elements of dance, performance and visual arts, they develop scenic pieces that question the differences or similarities between contemporary art and spectacle, they transit through conventional scenarios and unusual spaces in the circulation of live arts.
In House of Tupamaras they explore what is generally catalogued as "Mariconeo y Pluma", stigmatized and excluded gestures and movements in public places, that is why they are interested in nightlife and the party as a place of construction of knowledge and meeting between different groups. They generate nighttime encounters between the LGBTIQ+ community and the local context. They build safe and inclusive dance floors based on mutual respect.
They offer professional training spaces and practices open to the public, based on technical elements offered by Voguing, and histrionic elements of merengue (popular dances in the 80's and 90's in different contexts).

Mamba Negra is one of the long-time inspiration for pixelrave, we had the privilege to attend few of their events and it is always a journey in a parallel dimension, a safe zone that create precious resilient and revolutionary spaces in Brasil, confronting its populistic right-wing government and its violent normative necropolitics.

Mamba Negra only can speak of themself.

Poisonous serpent with libidinous nocturnal habits. Fast and fatal pounce. Eletronic temple of experimentation.audacious gang of performative snakes from São Paulo's underground.
Active in São Paulo's underground scene since may 2013, was born offering a obscure and hard type of atmosphere, and by the confrontation between eletronic and acoustic, minimal organic and percussive, techno with african and Brazilian rhythms. Consolidated as a live production space, with dj sets, live jams, psychedelia, maracatu and post-tropicalisms with eletronic beats.
Mamba Negra is a deep aestethic experience surrounded by an multi-language enviroment, wrapped on a mesh of hand-made work, such as cenography elements, graphic material, live vjiyng, ready made serygraphic t-shirts, trash tattoo, performatic outfit and urban intervention.

We had lucky chance to chat a bit with Cashu, one of the initiators of Mamba Negra. Mamba’s story, experience, strategies are really inspiring for us, they went quickly in online formats finding creative way to stay connected with their communities. And their 7 Annux Online Festival has been a blast!

Todo encontro é risco, é a medida do improvável numa enorme e desigual cidade latinoamericana.

Accessing spaces (of speech) can be a personal achievement arising from structural privileges, occupying and re-signifying them is a collective achievement. There is no such thing as individual empowerment, nor one-person language.

Two extremes coexist in Brazilian electronic music: mass entertainment, which includes everything from gospel and country music to funk, hip hop, R&B, EDM, and everything else that rolls in the big POP music genre; and independent art.

This broad sector is led by women, blacks, and LGBTQIA+ people from all regions of Brazyl, articulated in the centers and peripheries. The independent electronic music community is marginalized, accesses and indirectly feeds the entertainment circuit in the politics of the lottery. It is a niche, which is frowned upon by the common population because of its repetitive sound, but mainly because it is frequented by LGBTQIA+ and blacks, and is associated with drug use.

The predatory development of the city of São Paulo throughout its history, with a highway urbanism, the demands of the real estate market for new centers of exploitation and housing have created enormous scars. The second largest city in latin america coexists with idle spaces between viaducts and squares, abandoned industrial areas, hundreds of thousands of buildings stopped due to public debts and the inheritance of old oligarchies. For many years we have watched these spaces remain closed or, when activated by housing, cultural and workers' movements, violently evicted.

In May, we kept the MAMBA anniversary celebration going with the 7 Annnux Online Festival. It was 4 days of live and pre-recorded streaming with 61 musical and performance attractions, workshops and debates.

With MAMBAREC we had the releases of "Tragicomic Remixes" (Valesuchi and V. A., album), the album "Pedra Preta Remixes" by TETO PRETO with two music videos, the EP "Dois Leões" by Tantão and the Fitas also with a music video and now in December, Volume 1 of the Kengaral Eletrohits Collection. Although the releases are digital, the label produces merchandising for our party store.

Parallel to this, our production team spent the whole year writing projects for public funding calls and looking for partnerships with private capital to raise funds to continue the activities of the collective. Through partnerships and the festival's self-financing, for example, we were able to organize caches for the artists of the festival and, later, a monthly financial aid for almost 25 artists and professionals of the collective.

                Cashu

It's not even close to what we would like to do to really support our independent scene network. However, the pandemic is a moment to put our house in order, to dedicate ourselves to the strategic organization of all sectors of MAMBA, and to build the foundation of this new moment of the collective.

                Cashu

With a lot of creative work, writing of collective projects, and study, we are managing to raise funds to act with full force in 2021 in new formats, but with the same tireless essence of the snakes.

                Cashu

Good things are coming! We will start the year with the opening of a small cultural space in downtown São Paulo. COVIL will house the co-worqueen of the MAMBAs, where Radio Vírusss, Workshops, Debates, Film Clubs, and tiny events will take place.

                Cashu

A working space, a meeting and experimentation space to listen to music, perform, create, sip, snack, and chat. It is a garage surrounded by an unbelievable tropical garden right in the center of São Paulo.

                Cashu

MAMBA understands that it is the responsibility of independent parties not to collude with the negationist politics of Jair Bolsonaro and murderous speculative capital. Until today, we work with agglomerations as artists and as collectivities. We are building a new space of safe articulation so that when we can return to the long awaited parties, we can arrive with full force in the deactivated factories and streets.

We created a "frequently answered questions" area on our website. What is the most annoying question people ask you that you would live to avoid answering? We can put it there and they just read it.

	DJ Quad
Jesse DJ Quad Morin is a disabled hip hop artist who became paralyzed at the age of 16 from a diving accident at Venice Beach in July of 1984. But even before his accident he was always into music or as some called it back then was making noise. But little did everyone know is that the music never left him it just got stronger and with time DJ Quad developed the talent of singing and laying different instruments. It was back in elementary school where he was just singing to himself in class and his teach pointed the music teacher in his direction and that is when he started getting into singing in the school choir. Soon after that the instruments can in hand and the noise began.
So a few years go by and here come the day of July 16th, 1984 and his life changed in a major way. Now paralyzed from the neck down not being able to move his arms or hands the only thing DJ Quad had at that time was his voice, It wasn’t the same as it was a few years ago but he never gave up on music. It seem be that music was actually a way from Quad to escape from the things happening around him as he was learning a new way of life and living.
Now jump forward a few years where DJ Quad is captured by the music again but this time it’s in a different way and here is where the name DJ Quad was born. Yes as you might have guest it was by becoming a DeeJay back when the real DJ’s would spin records on vinyl (YES ON WAX). Once he started getting into DJing he would practice to perfect his craft, and remember here is a young man at the time still not having full function of his arms and hands, but again he never gave up and he found ways to make it work for him.

Now moving forward again a few years he wanted another challenge and that was to become a music producer taking it to the next level from being a DJ but using his skills at the same time. Now as a producer / beat maker DJ Quad had so many ideas he wanted to get out of his head and that he did, as he was be making beats everyday for almost 12 hours a day. The beat production had gotten better and better, he started making beats for local artist and fellow rappers as he started a hip hop crew called 5th Battalion Ent with his best friend Fernando Escobar. DJ Quad and the 5th Battalion started putting together showcase shows all over Hollywood California and that just took off where they were running the underground hip hop scene all over California.

It was about the time when DJ Quad and Leroy Moore got connected together as the Krip-Hop Nation was taking off as well. And right there is when DJ Quad and Leroy Moore began making history. DJ Quad becoming a proud member of the Krip-Hop Nation working on many if not all of the Krip-Hop Nations CD’s that have been executive produced by Leroy Moore.

Krip-Hop Nation CD’s Vol’s 1, 2 and 3, Police Brutality Profiling, Krip-Hop Nations 10 year anniversary album.

Toni Hickman

“Toni Alika Hickman is not only a talented singer-songwriter; she is the survivor of two brain aneurysms and a stroke,” says board-certified neurologist, pain medicine specialist, medical educator, and executive director of the Global Neuroscience Initiative Foundation’s (GNIF), Dr.Shaheen E Lakhan.

In 2004, the singer/songwriter was days away from signing another record deal when she suffered a brain aneurysm. She refused to let it derail her music career, and three years later was in New Orleans to celebrate completing her album when she had a second aneurysm. While Hickman was on the operating table, she also suffered a stroke that partially paralyzed her right side.
Toni was raised as a Seventh Day Adventist, and a vegetarian. Even though she has eaten meat throughout her lifetime, she has maintained mostly healthy eating habits and has been a vegetarian for over 20 years.

Some people may assume that Toni’s stroke and aneurysms happened because of high blood pressure, but according to the brain aneurysm foundation, 1 in 50 people in the U.S. has a brain aneurysm, with an estimated 6 million having an unruptured aneurysm.

Toni now uses her voice and music to inspire others. She has been featured on the Deborah Duncan Show, Radio One, featured in Shape magazine and several other publications throughout the world. She has spoken at numerous colleges and other organizations on subjects of depression and recovery, physical, mental, and spiritual health, living one’s purpose, chemicals in beauty products, and a host of other subjects. She is a speaker/performer for YoungStroke and the American Heart Association, an author, artist, Certified Naturopath, mother, & Activist.

Toni has spoken at several organizations and businesses throughout the United States, and featured in publications and radio in different parts of the world. Some of her speaking/performing engagements include: Austin State Capital - Georgia State University - San Francisco Public Library - Community Book Center (New Orleans) - Prarie view (College Station) - YoungStroke Conference Jacksonville, Florida - Radio One - Texas Black Expo - Women with Disabilities Conference - YoungStroke Fundraiser Washington, DC & the list goes on!

I never suffered with high blood pressure. Health has always been important to me, and I believe it is one of the reasons I am still alive after suffering 3 attacks that could have taken me out.

Dears,
I woke up with a terrible migraine and will not be able to join a the zoom meeting in the next hours. Super sorry!
Let me answer your questions quickly w some bullet points and after that I lay down.
- Do you have experiences of online raving?I have actively searched for online rave/music formats from second one of the logdown, because I am also an organizer myself. In the meantime I have seen many different things, formats and rooms.
what workedWhenever I went into a room/ online format with a group/friends, it worked.
In general everything that is visually strong. In most cases I have looked at whole sets if the visuals were good (and when they where short like 20 minutes to 30 minutes).
I only danced when I was connected with other people. In this case the private chat was really important. It was never integrated in the platforms, and took place on Telegram.
The one time I was really dancing/raving at home, I prepared myself for the event, kepted the evening free, have made my environment cosy, made an online appointment with friends. After the rave it was actually very hard to be alone at home, after this feeling of connectivity and intimacy that came though the music and the chat. So maybe aftercare can also be something you can think about.
In fact, when I think about it, I also was most likely to stay or to watch a set, if I knew the people who played and if the live streams were „authentic“. I remember watching a live set (and dancing a little) bc the friends of mine that where DJ-ing where a little drunk and it was very cute to watch. Also there was the chat (this time on facebook) that I enjoyed very much.didn't work for you? When I went alone I usually just checked out the form and design, tried out all possible features and then left. Even when I DJ'd myself, I never made it through a whole set of someone else.
Overall, I believe that we need to learn online raving as much as we need to learn the rules of all other spaces we enter.
At the moment it is not yet clear what I have to do to make an onlinerave "successful" for me. We all still lack the experience to do this. We can invent and explore this together.I will answer this question later, sorry! How do you want/feel comfortable being in a digital space, how should your phsical body be in digital dimension? Do you feel the digital spaces you inhabit in your everyday life are inclusive? If not what would you like to change?Best!U.
